Other Song Birds

printable page

Many song bids are birds that frequent gardens whether that be all year round or just in winter when food is scarce. Then there are other song birds like the rare Cirl Bunting which can only be found on unploughed fields in Devon or the Dipper that is mainly found near fast-flowing streams and rivers in the north and south west of England.

The Mistle Thrush is a common song bird that can be heard singing lots of different songs in woodlands. It is also one of the few birds that will continue singing even if the weather is very stormy. We also have the striking yellow-coloured Yellowhammer which sings quick songs on grasslands and fields and the Meadow Pipit that sings on the ground and continues to sing while lifting up into the air. Other song birds can be heard in a variety of places such as grassland, weedy wastelands, marshes, forests, rivers, streams, orchards and even old buildings.

In our website we have written about 10 song birds that don’t visit gardens and we will be writing about the Rock Pipit, Siskin, Skylark, Stonechat, Bearded Tit, Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail and the Woodlark very soon. We hope you enjoy reading about these birds and their ways of life in their environments.
